Skin moles are small spots formed by the skin cells. They are round shaped with sizes ranging from small to large. Some moles can be raised and the others flat. They can appear in different colors like light brown, red, pink, or blue. Even newborn babies may have moles. They are quite common and harmless. But sometimes they can turn to melanoma. A mole present on the face can spoil your looks. Exposure to sun is one of the reasons for the formation of a mole as ultraviolet rays cause hyperpigmentation. Light skinned people are more susceptible to mole formation. Moles can also be congenital. There are a several methods to get rid of moles.

Minor surgery

Surgical method of mole removal is used for potentially dangerous moles that can turn cancerous. A surgeon or a dermatologist will remove the mole with a scalpel. The resulting wound will be sutured. Pain killers are provided if there is any pain. Surgery may result in skin scarring. If the mole is cancerous then the surrounding tissue is also removed by making an elliptical incision.

Electrosurgery

The surgeon removes the mole with the help of an electric needle and destroys the tissues below. This technique makes sure that the mole will not grow back. This method may not need stitches but there are still chances of skin scarring.

Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery involves the application of extreme cold by the use of liquid nitrogen on the mole. The liquid is sprayed or circulated through a tube to the mole. It can also be dabbed on the mole using a cotton swab. Cryosurgery is likely to cause skin scarring. It can also cause damage to the surrounding tissue.

Laser surgery

Laser surgery is a very good of method of getting rid of the mole. Laser surgery is somewhat expensive, It may not require an anesthetic. Some patients feel a sensation when the laser hits the mole. The laser seals the blood vessels underneath the mole. It is also not necessary to use the suture. Laser is less likely to cause skin scarring.
